Anytime during the year is a great time to start thinking about Take a Stake in the Lakes Week (formerly Yahara Lakes Week)! Whether you've participated in the past or have never heard of this event, Take a Stake in the Lakes Week is an excellent opportunity to celebrate and care for Dane County's water resources.
Developed to raise public awareness of the water resources in the community, Take a Stake in the Lakes Week promotes a wide range of activities to focus attention on how the lakes affect our lives, and how we affect the lakes. The Dane County Lakes & Watershed Commission collects information about events happening in, on and around Dane County lakes, rivers and streams for nine days in June. It usually begins the second Saturday in June and wraps up on Sunday, a week later. The Commission promotes events with a calendar, press conferences and releases, editorials and more. As we share information about the variety of activities and opportunities our lakes present, we also provide information on how to protect our lakes and use them responsibly.
Contact Marcia Hartwig at hartwig@co.dane.wi.us or (608) 224-3746 if you have questions about Yahara Lakes Week. Feel free to make copies of the signup formand share it with those whom you feel could be a part of this worthwhile event. Hope to see you this spring!
The Yahara Waterways Water Trail Guide is a great resource for exploring our area waters.
