Sponsoring at Take a Stake in the Lakes Week

Anytime during the year is a great time to start thinking about Take a Stake in the Lakes Week (formerly Yahara Lakes Week)! Whether you've participated in the past or have never heard of this event, Take a Stake in the Lakes Week is an excellent opportunity to celebrate and care for Dane County's water resources.

Developed to raise public awareness of the water resources in the community, Take a Stake in the Lakes Week promotes a wide range of activities to focus attention on how the lakes affect our lives, and how we affect the lakes. The Dane County Lakes & Watershed Commission collects information about events happening in, on and around Dane County lakes, rivers and streams for nine days in June. It usually begins the second Saturday in June and wraps up on Sunday, a week later. The Commission promotes events with a calendar, press conferences and releases, editorials and more. As we share information about the variety of activities and opportunities our lakes present, we also provide information on how to protect our lakes and use them responsibly.

Here are just a few ways you and your group can be part of Take a Stake in the Lakes Week:

  • Sponsor your own event! Return this form with your information by April 1st and the Office of Lakes and Watersheds will help promote your event as a part of Take a Stake in the Lakes Week.
  • Volunteer! Sign up to Take a Stake in the Lakes and help with clean-ups on the Saturday mornings during Take a Stake in the Lakes Week at various locations around the County.   • Promote Yahara Lakes Week through your newsletter! Contact Marcia Hartwig at hartwig@co.dane.wi.us or (608) 224-3746 for newsletter articles on Yahara Lakes Week, events, pollution prevention and other fun facts.
  • Got a rain garden? Show it off on our tour! Contact Marcia Hartwig at hartwig@co.dane.wi.us or (608) 224-3746 to nominate your rain garden for the annual Better Lawns and Gutters Tour held on Father's Day.
  • Nominate someone to be a Dane County Waters Champion! Know someone who's done great things for our water resources? Nomination forms are available on our website for our annual award recognizing individuals, groups and businesses for their outstanding contributions to the protection and improvement of our County's lakes and streams.
  • Participate in any of the fun-filled events around our lakes this June!
